We know from statistics and from research during WWII that during volaltile periods and wartime lipstick are more popular. The same effect has been noticed in Ukraine during the war since 2022. The reasons behind using more lipstick and more red lipstick might be multiple.
Now a study has focused on wearing lipstick and the personality traits. A recent study found a consistent positive link between narcissism and makeup use. Women with higher levels of narcissism generally invested more time, money, and effort into makeup. Their makeup application varied notably based on the context, with increased use in situations where they might encounter new individuals or aim to create a positive impression.
In contrast, women who scored higher on psychopathy tended to have more stable and lower levels of makeup use across all situations. This suggests they may not use makeup as a tool for social presentation as much as other personality types. The researchers caution that these effects were small and that many other factors influence makeup habits.
I am following the election debates in Swedish, and I can't resist thinking about this, not that Sweden is in a war but the correlation between make up and personality traits. Imagine if there is a correlation. Among the female party leaders Ebba Busch (KD) and Simona Mohamsson (L) has been wearing make up thorough out the debates with accentuated lipstick often red while Magdalena Andersson ( S) and Elisabeth Kristin Thand Ringqvist (C) has no noticeable make-up at all, nor any heels or other female attributes. The party leader Nooshi Dadgostar (V) frequently use dark red lipstick. Could we maybe make a comparison by analyzing their verbal and written words in order to find any cues to their personalities?
